Nassau Police Investigating Brutal Freeport Rape

Reports say the woman was struck from behind and knocked unconscious by her attacker.

UPDATE: Nassau police have described the attacker as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a slight to medium build. He was wearing blue jeans and a long green shirt.

ORIGINAL STORY: Nassau police are investigating the brutal rape of a Freeport woman that happened early Friday morning, sources say.

According to police, the attack occurred near Northeast Park in Freeport.

News 12 reported that the victim, a 36-year-old woman, was walking home when she was struck from behind by her attacker, knocked unconscious and raped on the front lawn of her home. After an hour, the woman was able to break free and break a window on the home, which alerted her family inside and caused the attacker to run off, according to News 12.

Police are still looking for the attacker. According to Newsday, the woman did not know her attacker.
