Nassau Woman Indicted On 13 Charges In DWI Death Of Mother

Authorities say Nicole Pollock was speeding and driving drunk when she hit the back of another car, killing a mother and injuring her son.

FREEPORT, NY — A Freeport woman has been indicted on more than a dozen charges after authorities say she drunkenly crashed into another car and left a mother dead and her 8-year-old son hurt.

Nicole Pollock, 26, was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, aggravated DWI and other related offenses, in the February crash, prosecutors said Wednesday. Her bail was set at $200,000 bond or $100,00 cash.

Pollock is expected to appear in court March 30. If convicted of the highest charge, she could face up to 25 years in prison.

“These Grand Jury charges allege that an eight-year-old boy’s mother was killed in front of him because of this defendant’s decision to recklessly drive drunk,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said. “My office is committed to obtaining justice for this young man and his family, although nothing will change this terrible loss. They have our sincere condolences."

Just after midnight on Feb. 2, Lissette Quintanilla, 39, was driving north on Meadowbrook State Parkway in North Merrick when Pollack was drunkenly speeding and hit the back of Quintanilla's car, prosecutors said. Quintanilla lost control of her car, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and smashed into a tree.

Quintanilla died at Nassau University Medical Center. Her son suffered a broken arm as well as other minor injuries.

Pollock's vehicle came to rest along a side rail north of the crash. She tried to walk away from the scene and was stopped by Nassau County police, prosecutors said.
