Catholic Charities of Long Island  Immigration & Refugee Services

The office of Immigration &amp; Refugee Services is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to counsel, process, file, and represent clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and EOIR Immigration Court. Our organization provides essential support to Ukrainian Humanitarian parolees through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriation to Resettlement Agencies (USARA) Program. Through USARA, we help individuals and families achieve stability, economic independence, and successful integration into the community. We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Our staff offers a wide range of social and employment services, including: • Development of a personalized self-sufficiency plan • Case management and referrals • Employment services, job search skills, and work experience opportunities • Outreach and community support • Social and cultural adjustment assistance • English language support • Help with school, benefits, and local resource navigation • Transitional services and employment retention support We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Rooted in compassion and dignity, Catholic Charities of Long Island is committed to helping newcomers rebuild their lives and feel safe, supported, and empowered within their new community.

Roosevelt High School student Tatiana Ramirez. The Roosevelt School District recently announced Ramirez as the Valedictorian of the 2017 graduating class. Roosevelt High School recently announced the top graduating student in the class of 2017. Tatiana Ramirez achieved the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) of the 2017 graduating class with a weighted average of 100.57. Ramirez is a member of the National Honor Society, the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club, the student government, the marching band and the National Honor Society. Ramirez plans to attend New York University after graduation to study biochemistry. We couldn't be more grateful to all the volunteers over the years who have helped beautify the 23-acre Jay Estate (wearing every color T-shirt from yellow to purple)!! From uncovering hidden flagstone paths, to raking leaves and planting annuals. We've participated in every I Love My Parks Day with Parks &amp; Trails NY and NY State Parks since 2012! Partner groups have included the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Mount Vernon Youth Bureau, Yale Alumni, Con Edison, Rye Neck School, Mamaroneck School, Stanford Alumni, the Rye Garden Club, Rye Sustainability Committee and many more.&nbsp;

Indigo Goodson-Fields is a writer, poet, and birder based in Brooklyn. Her forthcoming book, entitled Essential Birding is an anthology about the importance of birding in the lives of Black birders across the U.S. and will be published by OR Books in fall 2026.
