Roosevelt High School Celebrates Black History Month
Students Pay Tribute to the Contributions of Black Culture and Leadership with Showcase of Dance, Music and Poetry
Staff and students at Roosevelt High School in the Roosevelt School District recently capped off Black History Month with a celebration that honored the past, recognized the present, and looked toward the future. The high school community came together to pay tribute to the contributions of Black leaders throughout history with a showcase of powerful student performances, including dancing, singing, poetry and music.
“Our most recent Black History Month celebration was the culmination of everything our students learned and explored all month,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. "Our high school students inspired their community and one another through the hard work, creativity and dedication they put into such incredible performances. This celebration not only honored the incredible achievements of Black leaders from the past, but also inspired the next generation of leaders and changemakers. We are proud to stand together as a school community, united in the recognition that Black History is American History."
From uplifting African dance routines to soulful gospel songs and thought-provoking speeches, the event highlighted the enduring influence of Black culture and leadership. Students and staff gathered to witness and participate in the meaningful showcase of art, culture and community.
