Roosevelt High School Cheer Team Competes at Newsday Cheer Fest

Cheer Team Excels at Hofstra Festival and at Home During the First Rider Rumble

The Roosevelt High School Varsity Cheer team recently had a momentous weekend kicking off with their performance at the Newsday’s second annual Cheer Fest, followed by their first Rider Rumble home competition.

“The Rough Riders Varsity Cheer team had an incredibly successful performance both at Hofstra and at home during an exciting weekend of events,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Each member of the team represented Roosevelt with pride, and we are so proud of them for showcasing their hard work and dedication with energy and enthusiasm.”

During Newsday’s Cheer Fest, Roosevelt performed before a panel of judges and a crowd of about 3,000 spectators at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Rough Riders competed against 60 schools from across Long Island in the annual competition showcasing cheerleading excellence.

The Rough Riders hosted their first Rider Rumble home competition, where roughly 30 schools from across Nassau County competed against each other at Roosevelt High School. The event was the perfect way to cap off an exciting weekend and showcase the skills, dedication, comradery and professionalism of the Varsity Cheer Team.

Next on their agenda this spring, the Varsity Cheer team is preparing to compete in the Nassau County Varsity Cheerleading Championship Tournament.
