ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (October 2026) — Roosevelt High School Junior Reserve Officers’
Training Corps. (JROTC) cadets participated in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against
Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach on Sunday, October 18, joining community members in raising
awareness about breast cancer, supporting those affected by it, and promoting the importance of early
detection and screening. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each fall, people across
the country unite to raise awareness and support for the millions of people affected by breast cancer.

The cadets walked to honor breast cancer survivors, stand with those facing the disease, and support
families and caregivers. The annual event promotes hope, awareness, and community support. Through
their participation, Roosevelt’s cadets demonstrated their commitment to community service while
supporting the American Cancer Society’s efforts to advance life-saving research, education, and patient
support.

Roosevelt High School is proud of its JROTC cadets for demonstrating the spirit of the Rough Riders and
showing how acts of service can contribute to a stronger, more supportive community.

“Participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk gives our cadets an opportunity to put
leadership values into action,” said Command Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Althea Robinson-Haddo, Roosevelt High
School’s JROTC Senior Army Instructor. “We want our students to understand that serving their
community goes beyond the classroom. By participating in this walk, our cadets are helping spread
awareness about the importance of early detection while showing support for those affected by breast
cancer. I am proud of them for representing Roosevelt with such compassion.”
