Students from Roosevelt High School in the Roosevelt School District recently observed a day in the life of a government official during the Albany Youth Summit. During the interactive experience, students engaged with elected officials, learned about civic responsibility, and networked with fellow students and future political leaders.

“The Albany Youth Summit provided an unforgettable chance for our students to step out of the classroom and see firsthand how our government operates,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “We are so proud of our students for representing Roosevelt with pride and showing an enthusiasm for political engagement. We thank our dedicated ENL teacher and department coordinator Mr. Flores for organizing this amazing opportunity for our students.”

One particular highlight was meeting with New York State Senator Bynoe, who spoke to students about her political journey and shared insight about leadership, duty, and public service. Senator Bynoe also guided students through the Senate Chamber during an interactive tour. The District plans on returning to the Albany Youth Summit next year to provide more students with the chance to meet government leaders and explore a future in politics.
