Roosevelt High School Students Take Part in First Elections

District Recognizes Students Who Cast Their First Ballots in the Budget and Board of Education Vote

The Roosevelt School District recognized Roosevelt High School students who participated in their first election by casting ballots in the Budget and Board of Education vote on May 19.

In the weeks leading up to the vote, the District organized a voter registration and awareness campaign aimed at encouraging newly eligible student voters to take part in the democratic process. The initiative focused on helping students understand how local school elections impact their education, school programs, and overall learning environment, while also guiding them through the steps to register and vote. By participating in this election, these students took an important step in civic engagement and contributed directly to decisions shaping the future of their school community.

“We are proud to see our students embracing the importance of civic engagement and taking part in shaping their future,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Their participation reflects a growing awareness of the role they can play in their community and the value of having their voices heard.”
