Nassau Man Pleads Guilty In Brutal Beating, Rape

A Nassau County man pleaded guilty Thursday in a deal with prosecutors to felony charges of rape, sexual abuse and assault.

FREEPORT, NY — A Roosevelt man has pleaded guilty to brutally raping a woman last year in Freeport as she walked home at night. Ever Martinez-Reyes, 25, pleaded guilty Thursday in a deal with prosecutors to felony charges of rape, sexual abuse and assault.

Under the deal, Martinez-Reyes will have to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

Madeline Singas, the Nassau County District Attorney, said in a news release that Martinez-Reyes "ruthlessly preyed upon" his victim. She thanked the victim for her courage.

"Today, this incredibly brave survivor heard her defendant admit in open court to this brutal assault," said Singas. "Her courage to not only fend off her attacker, but to also face her accuser in court cannot be understated."

The attack happened in the early hours of Sept. 28, 2018. Around 2 a.m., Martinez-Reyes followed the woman down a street and punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious. He then dragged her to the side of a lawn and repeatedly punched and kicked her face, prosecutors said. He then sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious.
