ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (October 2026)—The Roosevelt Union Free School District celebrated Homecoming with a fun-filled weekend of Rough Rider pride, featuring a spirited pep rally and a community parade ahead of the annual football game. Students and staff kicked off the festivities with a spirited pep rally on Friday, October 9, followed by the parade and football game on Saturday, October 10, which welcomed families and community members for a memorable celebration.

Throughout the week leading up to the football game, all five schools in the district—including Centennial Avenue Elementary School, Washington Rose Elementary School, Ulysses Byas Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, and Roosevelt High School—showed off their school pride with festive Spirit Week activities. The week featured a variety of themed dress-up days, including Pajama Day, Jersey Day, Twin Day, Decades Day, and BBQ Dads vs. Soccer Moms, giving students a fun and creative way to participate in the homecoming festivities and build excitement.

This year’s homecoming theme was “Roosevelt’s Great Animal Adventure,” with each school’s parade float reflecting the shared theme. Students Jefferson Santos and Genisus Rivera were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. The Roosevelt Rough Riders faced off against MacArthur Senior High School in a rousing football game that had the crowd cheering, ending in a final score of 19-6, with Levittown taking the victory.

“Homecoming is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students, showcase our school pride, and bring the Roosevelt community together,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman said. “The enthusiasm and community support throughout the festivities reflect the strong connections that make our district special.”
