Roosevelt School District Honors Black- and- Women’s-History Months

Washington Rose Student Performances Pay Tribute to the Contributions and Leadership of Inspiring African American Women

In a powerful celebration of both Black History Month and Women’s History Month, students at Washington Rose Elementary School in the Roosevelt School District honored influential African American women and their many impacts on our country. The on-stage event featured a showcase of dance, music, poetry and art highlighting the legacies of African American women who shaped the course of history.

“Our young leaders took the stage with confidence and grace, sharing with their peers the importance of diversity, history and the legacy of the trailblazers who inspire us each day,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “We’re so proud of our dedicated and talented students and our community for embracing the importance of these histories. Together, we are committed to ensuring these stories are celebrated and passed on for generations to come.”

Throughout the event, students showcased their creativity and leadership by performing dances and delivering thought-provoking poetry, reflecting on the resilience, strength, and achievements of renowned African American women. The event also included meaningful discussions about the lasting impact of these women, from pioneers in the civil rights movement to contemporary musicians and athletes.
