Roosevelt School District Hosts Back-to-School Fair

District offers students and their families community resources and school supplies during festive celebration

The Roosevelt School District recently welcomed students and their families back to school in style with its seventh annual Back-to-School Fair. The highly anticipated districtwide event—which featured community resources, food, music and entertainment—

was a vibrant and engaging way to foster excitement about the start of school.

“Our Back-to-School Fair is the perfect way to unite the community and provide students and their families with the support, confidence and excitement they need for a successful school year,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “It was inspiring to see the community come together and celebrate the start of the new school year.”

Students and families picked up backpacks and school supplies donated by Canon, visited representatives of various community resources, enjoyed food and snacks, and celebrated the last days of summer with a DJ, dunk tank and inflatable attractions.

Local community resources included Academic Explorers, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, the Hospital Youth Academy, the Hispanic Counseling Center, Inc., the New York State Office for People with Development Disabilities, the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence, Fidelis Care, Harmony Healthcare Long Island and the Roosevelt Teachers Association.
