Roosevelt School District Hosts a Day of Immersive Career Exploration and Financial Literacy

My Brother's Keeper and Career Day, Inc. Partner at Roosevelt High School for a Career Day Like No Other

Roosevelt High School students recently took part in a full-day career exploration and financial literacy experience hosted through a partnership with My Brother’s Keeper and Career Day, Inc.

The event was presented in collaboration with New York State’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which works to unite school districts, higher education institutions, and community organizations to provide opportunities and support for boys and young men of color. Career Day Inc., a Long Island-based nonprofit, partnered in the effort, bringing its mission of educating and empowering young people to pursue meaningful and fulfilling careers.

The program featured a curated panel of diverse professionals who shared their personal career journeys, professional insights, and life lessons with Roosevelt High School students. The experience provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage directly with accomplished individuals representing a wide range of industries.

“The opportunity for our students to learn directly from professionals and gain real-world insight into both career pathways and financial responsibility is invaluable,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Experiences like this help ensure our students are not only inspired about their futures but also equipped with the knowledge and confidence to succeed beyond high school.”

Career Day Inc. is known for delivering comprehensive, on-site programming that transforms a traditional school day into an immersive, hands-on career experience. Throughout the day, students interacted with professionals, explored various career pathways, and gained exposure to industries they may not have previously considered. The organization’s approach is designed to broaden students’ perspectives while connecting them with real-world expertise across multiple fields.

In addition to career exploration, the program emphasized financial literacy, equipping students with essential knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their financial futures. Presenters tied their personal and professional experiences to key themes such as financial responsibility, economic empowerment, and long-term planning.

“At Career Day Inc., we believe every young person deserves the chance to see what’s possible for their future,” said Career Day, Inc. Founder Beth Bucheister. “It is inspirational to see the students lighting up as they heard from professionals who looked like them, who came from communities like theirs and who had the courage to pursue careers they were passionate about. Our partnership with My Brother’s Keeper allowed us to deliver that experience to students who need it most, and we are incredibly proud of the impact this program is making.”

The immersive event reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to working with community partners to expand access to impactful, real-world career programming and opportunities for its students.
