Roosevelt School District Joins the Million Fathers March
Fathers and family members walk children to school as part of global initiative
Centennial Avenue Elementary School in the Roosevelt School District recently celebrated the Million Fathers March, a movement recognized by about 200 schools internationally.
Fathers, guardians and family members started their mornings by walking their children to school, meeting with their teachers and learning about the District’s partnership with the Furthering Fathering Corporation, a fatherhood nonprofit dedicated to helping fathers engage in and support their children’s education and give back to their community.
“We had an awe-inspiring showing of community pride and support at our Million Fathers March and the event was a great way for fathers and family members to get involved in their children’s education,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “We thank everyone at Centennial Elementary School and the Furthering Fathering Corporation for running such a successful event.”

The Million Fathers March is united under the theme "The Power of Presence: Fathers Engaged in Education.” The initiative, founded by the nonprofit Fathers Incorporated, celebrates community-building and emphasizes the important role father figures play in children’s lives.
At Centennial Avenue, fathers, brothers and grandfathers walked students to school and registered to take part in the District’s initiative to bolster their role in education. They were also given multilingual literacy booklets to use with their children at home and throughout workshops during the school year.
