Suicidal Man Arrested, Now Facing Multiple Charges

Police managed to stop the man from killing himself, but now he's facing multiple charges related to the incident.

A man who threatened to kill himself on a boat ramp in Freeport on Sunday now faces multiple charges, police say.

According to police, a call came in Sunday morning to the Freeport Police Department for a man on the Milburn Boat Ramp on Atlantic Avenue in Freeport (not Baldwin, as police initially reported), who was threatening to kill himself with a rifle. When police arrived, they found 47-year-old Thomas Belajonas, of Freeport, with an AR-type rifle on the boat ramp.

With the help of the Nassau County Police Department, Bureau of Special Operations, the Marine Bureau, Emergency Services and the Hostage Negotiation Team, police managed to talk Belajonas down. He eventually listened to the officers and put down his gun.
