Uniondale Celebrates Expansions to Two Elementary Schools

Uniondale Union Free School District recently held two ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate the completion of the newly constructed wings at Grand Avenue Elementary School and Smith Street Elementary School. The school board, central administration, principals, bond advisory committee, H2M Architects and Engineers, and Elite and Triton Construction companies cut the ribbons at each school and led a walkthrough of the new additions.

At both schools, the new wings contain pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes, as well as new bathrooms. All new classrooms are outfitted with new technology and furniture.

“Early childhood education is where our youngest scholars begin to develop the core attributes of an active learner: curiosity, creativity, initiative and persistence, through educators creating learning environments that are developmentally, culturally and linguistically responsive to scholars,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “Our early childhood education program runs six hours a day, five days a week. The mission of this program is to provide scholars with safe and stimulating learning experiences where high expectations and a passion for learning are a priority. The new wings in the expanded Grand Avenue and Smith Street Elementary Schools will provide a new space for our young scholars to grow while also containing the latest technology to ensure our scholars are on the path to success at an early age. We thank H2M, Elite, Triton, the bond advisory committee and all those who helped bring this plan to fruition.”
