Uniondale High School Cafeteria Gets an Upgrade

On the first day back after the winter break, Uniondale Union Free School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the newly-renovated cafeteria. Upgrades included freshly painted walls by RJ Painting, new floors by Parson’s Flooring and new furniture provided by Ridgewood.

“While, of course, our cafeteria workers play a central role in scholars’ school days by providing nutritious meals, the room in which scholars spend those 40 minutes at lunchtime plays an equally important role,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “The cafeteria is where scholars can sit down, relax and chat with others. It’s where they can develop lasting bonds with their peers, do their homework and study. We’ve created a clean, comfortable and inviting environment for each of our scholars walking through our cafeteria doors. The room looks wonderful, and we thank H2M Architects and Engineers for their commitment to our District to always providing the highest quality designs for our schools.”

State Assemblywoman Taylor Darling, Board of Education Trustee Addie Blanco-Harvey, Nostrand Gardens Civic Association member Patty Harris and Bond Oversight Committee member Olga Hernandez attended the ribbon cutting.

“These upgrades have completely transformed the cafeteria atmosphere,” said Uniondale High School Principal Mark McCaw. “Everything looks fantastic, and we are pleased with the outcome.”

For the 2023-2023 school year, all scholars enrolled in the Uniondale School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge, following the standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for healthy school meals.
