Uniondale School District Celebrates the Class of 2023
Commencement honors graduating seniors and all they've accomplished
UNIONDALE, NEW YORK (JUNE 2023) — The Uniondale Union Free School District recently held its commencement ceremony at Hofstra University to honor Uniondale High School’s 2023 graduating class. At the event, the District celebrated the individual and collective accomplishments of its graduating seniors.
The event included performances by Uniondale High School musicians, including members of its choir and orchestra. Graduates were called one by one to the stage to receive their diplomas and commendations for their hard work during the past four years. Members of the Uniondale School District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil, Uniondale High School Principal Mark McCaw and administrators congratulated each scholar and offered best wishes for the future.
“You are phenomenal and that’s why we are celebrating you, but I know that the road to graduation has not been easy for all of you,” Dr. Darrisaw-Akil said. “Some of you have faced incredible obstacles but you are here today because of your strength, courage, and resilience. Today is a testament to your unwavering determination and perseverance. We salute you for your remarkable achievements.”

Dr. Darrisaw-Akil commended the Class of 2023 for its outstanding and record-breaking number of college acceptances, scholarships and awards. She shared pride in seeing scholars excel in science, technology, the arts, sports and many other areas.
“As you step into the future, know that a part of us who have loved you and watched you grow will always be with you,” she said at the conclusion of her speech. “We believe in you and we have no doubt that you will achieve greatness. We can’t wait to see the extraordinary things you will do. Go forth and make us proud.”

During the ceremony, Uniondale High School valedictorian Triston Mohamed and salutatorian Yesica Arriola Hercules reflected on their experiences at Uniondale High School and encouraged their peers to stay committed to pursuing their passions.
The graduating seniors also listened to words of wisdom from Uniondale High School Principal Mark McCaw, encouraging them to remain focused as they move forward with future academic and professional aspirations.
