Superintendents, program partners and scholars celebrate the launch of the P-Tech program

Uniondale Union Free School District has partnered with Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology through the New York State Department of Education’s Pathways in Technology (P-Tech) grant to establish a six-year STEM program for scholars. The program will allow scholars to enter one of two tracks at Vaughn College—animation and digital graphics or electrical engineering technology. Freeport and Wyandanch Uniondale Free School Districts’ scholars also have the opportunity to join the program.

The program will run from 9th-12th grade and include two optional postsecondary years of instruction, enabling scholars to acquire their Associate’s Degree at Vaughn College free of charge. Scholars will obtain transferable college credit in high school during the program’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th years.

“On Friday, October 7th, we held a P-Tech launch event, celebrating the beginning of this new partnership,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “We are incredibly grateful for our program partners who will guide our scholars along the way as they navigate new educational opportunities. I also would like to thank Vaughn College for participating in this program. With scholars having the opportunity to accumulate college credit while still in high school, we are pleased to say our scholars will be one step ahead of their peers when they enter college.”
