1 Dead After Fire At Nassau Senior Center
One resident died of a heart attack after a fire broke out at the senior center, police said.
UNIONDALE, NY — One person is dead after a fire broke out in a senior center in Uniondale early Sunday morning.
According to Nassau police, a fire started at the Park Gardens Senior Center, at 840 Uniondale Ave., around 1:50 a.m. Sunday. The police and the Uniondale Fire Department were able to evacuate everyone from the building.
A 75-year-old woman who lived at the facility suffered a heart attack during the evacuation. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. One officer also suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated at a hospital.

Police are investigating, but say it does not seem the fire is suspicious at this time.
