2 Charged In Attempted Murder In Nassau: Police

Police say an argument between three men led to one of them being shot at.

Two men were arrested and charged with attempted murder after an investigation into a shooting in Hempstead that occurred in May.

According to police, on May 19 at 5:41 p.m., a 54-year-old man got into an argument with Kawand Cofield, 40, of Terrace Avenue, Hempstead. Police say the argument escalated and Cofield pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the man. The man then fled into a building on Terrace Avenue.

Police say Cofield gave the gun to Trevor Ford, 27, also of Terrace Avenue. Ford followed the man into the building, police said, and fire two shots at the man and missed.

An investigation led police to both Cofield and Ford. Cofield was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing. Ford was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Cofield was previously arraigned. Ford is scheduled to be arraigned on June 21 in First District Court in Hempstead.
