3 Chilean Nationals Charged With Stealing Credit Cards: GCPD

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Sept. 18.

  • On Sept. 11, a resident reported multiple fraudulent checks were cashed against his bank account.
  • Due to power outages on Sept. 11, officers responded to multiple traffic light malfunctions on Hilton Avenue and Cathedral Avenue.
  • Upon investigation of a theft of a wallet from a vehicle parked at the Cherry Valley Country Club in July and the subsequent use of credit cards from the wallet to illegally purchase property, Garden City detectives arrested three people as they attempted to board a plane at JFK Airport on Sept. 12. Two of them, a 31-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, both from Chile, were charged with two counts of identity theft, criminal possession of stolen property, forgery and grand larceny. The third person, a 51-year-old man from Chile, was charged with identity theft and criminal possession of stolen property.
  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 25-year-old man from Hempstead on Sept. 13 for a July incident where the man fled the scene on foot after driving his vehicle into a tree on Atlantic Avenue. He was also charged with driving with nine license suspensions.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 25-year-old man from Plainview on Sept. 13 for a Sept. 11 incident where he drove away from the scene after striking and damaging a parked vehicle in Parking Field 9E.
  • Officers assisted the fire department for a smoke condition inside an Adelphi University building on Sept. 13. It was determined that the smoke was apparently caused by burnt food.
  • Officers assisted the fire department for a smoke condition at a home on Sept. 14. The cause was determined to be a malfunctioning boiler. Firefighters safeguarded the scene.
  • Officers responded to a report of malfunctioning railroad gates at the Hilton Avenue crossing on Sept. 15.
  • A vehicle was stopped for speeding on Rockaway Avenue and 4th Street on Sept. 15. Upon investigation, the driver, a 22-year-old man from Hempstead, was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • A school bus with three occupants was damaged when it struck the Chestnut Street train trestle on Sept. 16. No one was injured. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Bethpage, was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Chestnut Street on Sept. 16, officers charged a 38-year-old man from Pennsylvania with driving while his privileges in New York were suspended, and operating a truck with an unsecured load.
  • A tote bag containing miscellaneous items was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the Walgreens parking field on Sept. 17.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Washington Avenue on Sept. 17, a 35-year-old woman from East Northport was charged with excessive speed and driving with a suspended license.
