#69: St. Paul's Playground
Playground at St. Paul's is centrally located for all families.
The newest of Garden City’s playgrounds is found at the St. Paul’s Recreation Complex on Stewart Avenue.
It’s a beautiful area with playground equipment made by Playworld Systems complete with a short climbing wall. It’s appropriate for the age 12 and under group. There is also a gazebo to sit in, several benches and a comfort station that has drink machines and bathrooms. While older children are on the fields playing sports, the younger ones can have fun on the playground.
Kevin Ocker, head of Garden City's Recreation Department, stated, “Construction began in the fall of 2005 and was completed in the spring of 2006 as part of Phase III of the St. Paul’s Open Space Improvement Project. Also included in Phase III was the construction of the comfort station.”

Since 2006, many families have enjoyed the playground.
“We love to come here. It’s a great place for kids. I love the Astroturf,” said Susanna Sheehan, a Garden City Middle School teacher, referring to the spongy ground material under the equipment.

Sheehan’s husband, Frank, agreed. Referring to his son, also named Frank (9), he commented, “Every time he comes he meets friends from town and they arrange play dates.”
Sela's and Grant’s mother exclaimed, “This park’s terrific! St. Paul’s has over 37 acres. There’s nowhere like it.”
Beatka was taking care of Julia (6) and Erica (4). They were dressed as princesses as they climbed the equipment. Erica announced, “I like the swirly slide and the monkey bars!”
Mike was pushing little Grace (14 months) on the baby swings. He remarked, “I think it’s great. She has a ball here all summer. She likes to watch the others.”
“We come throughout the year. St. Paul’s is one of the nicest parks we’ve been to and it’s well-maintained. There’s lots of variety…” explained Chrysanthe, as she pushed daughter, Sophia (3) on the baby swings.
