#96 - Cluett Hall and St. Paul's School Field House
The Garden City Recreation Department has scheduled events during school vacations with helpful staff.
Winter break is a time for fun at the Field House and Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s School.
The Recreation Department schedules activities for children of all ages such as basketball, volleyball, dodge ball and table games in the Field House, and a movie at Cluett with good times for all.
During the vacation week students in grades 7-12 were able to use the Field House in the afternoons. On Feb. 22, the Field House had between 12 and 17 boys playing basketball in small pick-up teams as well as individual hoops practice.

On Feb. 23, more boys played basketball as Declan Fee, Recreation Department attendant, kept an eye on things with his buddy, Matty Castellano. Fee is a 2008 graduate of Garden City High School and works there part time while going to classes at Nassau Community College. In the summer he will head over to Edgemere Park to be the park attendant.
Also on Wednesday there were also about 125 children and parents in Cluett Hall to see the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. It was sponsored by the Recreation Department and Rams Girls’ Lacrosse. Snacks were available for a small charge.

“I had Gatorade, lemonade, popcorn and chips!” exclaimed Jack O’Neill (4). Kevin (6) concurred. Snacks are an important part of a movie, of course. No comment on the movie from Jack, but Kevin said it was “kinda funny.”
Additional Recreation Department attendants Tom McGerty, Andrew Karen and Monica Norniella helped out with the movie. “Cluett is constantly used and rocks 24/7!” remarked Karen. He also helps out with the roller hockey in nice weather.
McGerty added, “And the patrons are very nice. We have a movie during the Christmas break, the winter break and usually one more time in the winter.” He helps out at the pool during the summer.
Other activities took place in the mornings during winter break for younger children.
Upcoming Events: On March 6 there will be a magic show at 1 p.m. In addition, every Sunday there is open gym time from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Field House. The Recreation Department also sponsors middle school recreation nights. Starting in March arts and crafts classes will be held at Cluett Hall. With all activities, the Recreation Department supplies supervision. Visit www.GardenCityRecreation.org for more information.
