For the eighth year in a row, Adelphi University fraternity brothers from Kappa Sigma will fast for 24 hours during what they call Super Hungerfest. Proceeds raised from the event will support Island Harvest, a non-profit Long Island charity seeking to eradicate hunger in the region.
These Adelphi students will fast starting on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. and continue until Sunday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m.
To “kick-off” Super Hungerfest, Kappa Sigma invites the community to the University's Garden City campus on Saturday, February 1, from Noon to 3:00 p.m. for a program in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Lower Level. Featuring local musicians and a representative from Island Harvest; those who attend will learn about hunger/food shortages and their prevalence both on Long Island and US. Non-perishable items will also be collected.
In addition, the brothers of Kappa Sigma will conduct a door-to-door non-perishable food drive. Residents and local businesses are encouraged to participate. The Adelphi fraternity hopes to beat last year's collection by raising more than $4,000 and 2,000 lbs of canned food.
