New York, N.Y. – On Friday evening, the men's and women's track and field teams headed back to the 168th street Armory in New York City to compete in the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The Panthers were one of over 100 universities spread out across all three divisions of the NCAA that competed in the meet that has been running for 12 years.

The men sent a small contingent comprised of eight runners, jumpers throwers on the first day of action. Brandon Joachim and Jeffrey Barrett competed in the 60m hurdles in the collegiate division and posted season best times of 8.99 and 9.61 seconds respectively.

David Lewis and Eric Macaluso were the lone jumpers for the Panthers. Competing in the long jump, Lewis leaped to a mark of 6.24m while Macaluso set a season best with a jump of 5.71m. Travis Mielko made his collegiate debut in the shot put with a heave of 11.65m.

In their first attempt at the distance, the Distance Medley Relay squad got off to a solid start. The quartet of Ryan Healy, Lewis, Will Marois and Andrew Coelho combined for 10:14.58 to earn ninth place in the collegiate heat. The time is the second fastest in the Northeast-10 and less than five seconds away from and NCAA qualifying mark.

On the women's side, Angela Mongitore led fellow sprinters Monica Martinez and Cassandra Jean to a strong showing in the 200m dash. Mongitore raced to a 28th place finish in the collegiate heat with a time of 25.39. Although the time is .18 slower than her personal best, it is still an NCAA provisional mark. Martinez set a personal best by .03 with a 25.70 showing while Jean recorded a time of 25.91.

Rounding out the women's contingent, the DMR team which featured Kristina Coiro, Mongitore, Jackie Kaste and Elizabeth Eickelberg fared exceptionally well. The quartet posted a time of 12:14.45 which is an NCAA provisional mark by over five seconds. It is also the 12th fastest time in the country at this point and the best relay in the NE-10 so far this season.

The Panthers return to the Armory today when they close out the meet with the triple jump, and the men's and women's relays (4x400 and 4x800). Live results can be found here.
