GARDEN CITY, NY — Adelphi University has appointed a former Panther, and the first Long Island native, to serve as the University's 11th president.

The University's Board of Trustees announced on Wednesday that a graduate of Garden City High School and Former Alumnus Michael A.L. Balboni '81, JD, will officially take the helm on June 1.

Balboni graduated cum laude from the University in 1981 with a degree in biology and is a parent of an Adelphi alumna. As an adjunct faculty member and chair of the board of trustees, Balboni knows his Adelphi community well and is proud to return.

"It truly is a full-circle moment," he said.

Adelphi named the interim president, Christopher K. Storm Jr., PhD, to the new role of senior executive vice president of academic affairs and provost. The duo will work together to allow Adelphi to thrive – Storm to focus on teaching, research, and student outcomes, while Balboni will manage the operational and external facets of the University.

"I have watched how the University has progressed, and I look forward to working with Dr. Storm and the entire community to take Adelphi to new heights as the premier institution of higher learning on Long Island," Balboni said.

Storm said the past year has provided him with new opportunities that deepened his connections across campus.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve as interim president of Adelphi, where I have spent my entire 20-year career," he said. "I very much look forward to working with Michael Balboni as we embark on a bold new direction for Adelphi."

Adelphi officials said Balboni will "champion the University regionally and nationally and drive institutional growth."

Adelphi University has been ranked as a top private university on LI for the past three years, according to Forbes. It serves more than 7,000 students and sits on a main campus in Garden City, with learning hubs in Manhattan, Hudson Valley, Suffolk County, and online.

At this time, the University said they have a $282 million endowment and a "highly successful $100 million fundraising campaign that is nearing its goal." The university also said it has reached a "record enrollment" in two of the past three years.
