Adelphi University Presents “Smacked by the Storm: How Long Island Can Recover From Its Opioid Crisis”

Adelphi University Center for Health Innovation is proud to present “Smacked By the Storm: How Long Island Can Recover From Its Heroin Crisis,” with Jeffrey Reynolds, Ph.D., on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6:00–8:30 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom.

The program is based on the TEDxAdelphiUniversity 2017 talk by Reynolds, which focuses on the effects of addiction on individuals and families. The keynote address will be given by Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. An interdisciplinary expert panel will discuss prevention, treatment and recovery and Adelphi’s Department of Public Safety and Transportation will supervise an official drop-off location for expired medications.

Reynolds holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in public administration and a doctorate in social welfare. He worked for the Long Island Association for AIDS Care for 19 years and was the executive director of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. He is now is the president and CEO of the Family and Children’s Association (FCA). One of Long Island’s oldest and largest nonprofits serving 20,000 Long Islanders annually with multiple programs including two addiction treatment centers, transitional housing for runaway and homeless teens and a newly constructed community recovery center.
