South Easton, MA - The Northeast-10 Conference has announced that freshman Kristina Coiro is the Track Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 14. Additionally, the women took home Relay of the Week honors while two more were named to the weekly Honor Roll.
Coiro is coming off of a strong cross country season an is converting her success on to the track. The Levittown, N.Y. native had a solid showing at the NYC Gotham Cup this past Friday in her first collegiate indoor track race. She competed in the 1,000m run and clocked in a time of 3:10.05 which was good enough for 26th place overall out of 42 competitors. It is also the fastest time on the team so far and the fourth fastest mark in the conference.
The quartet of Rosie Vassilatos, Cassandra Jean, Angela Mongitore and Monica Martinez took home Relay of the Week honors for their performance at the Gotham Cup in the 4x400 relay. The four sprinters combined to clock in at 4:01.83 which placed them 10th overall out of 28 teams. The mark is nearly 10 seconds faster than their best time from last year's indoor season.
James Panetta and Elizabeth Eickelberg were featured on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for their respective performances in the 3k. Panetta set a personal best of 8:33.01 to take third while Eickelberg opened up her first race with a showing of 10:29 for fourth place.
The Panthers return to action next Friday, January 18 when they head back to the Armory to compete in the SUNY Albany Great Dane Classic.
