Adelphi's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Raising Money for Make-A-Wish Through Panther Plunge

Garden City, N.Y.- The frigid waters of Long Beach are awaiting the winner of the first annual Panther Plunge, hosted by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Members of the Adelphi University Athletic Department have pledged to bear the cold on the morning of February 3, in an effort to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Donations have been accepted at the front desk of the athletic department office since before the Holiday break and the most recent counts for the participants are as follows:
1. Gordon Purdie (Men's Lacrosse/SAAC) - $42.00
2. Adam Siepiola and Matt Dispensa (Media Relations) - $25.51
3. Gloria O'Connor (Field Hockey) - $16.33
4. Mike Gavagan (Athletic Training)- $4.01
Supporters still have time to place their donations in the jars labeled specifically for each participant. The final count will be taken at noon on Friday, February 1 and a winner will be announced shortly after. Student-athletes, faculty and community members are urged to bring in change of all sorts to support this cause.
In 2003 the NCAA Division II program established a national alliance with the Make-A-Wish foundation, a global charity that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medcal conditions. Since it started, the NCAA Divison II has raised more than $1.9 million in support of the foundation's mission. The fundraising effort by student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, fans, friends and communities across the country continues to make a difference in the lives of Make-A-Wish families.
Don't forget to drop by the athletic department office and donate your loose change to the cause because every little bit counts. Stay tuned to ww.aupanthers.com and follow us on Twitter (@AUPanthers) for updated totals and our winner on February 1.
