Courthouse Fire ‘Deemed Non-Suspicious’: NCPD

Nassau County police say Tuesday evening’s fire at the district courthouse in Hempstead was deemed non-suspicious.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — The fire that sent smoke billowing into the sky above Nassau County’s district courthouse has been deemed non-suspicious, Nassau County police said late Tuesday night.

In an update about the fire, police said third precinct officers and Hempstead police responded to the exterior of the courthouse for a transformer fire that broke out at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival, officers observed heavy smoke and flames originating from that area,” police said.

While a force of about 150 firefighters scrambled to the scene and put the blaze out in 90 minutes, investigation by fire marshal investigators and arson/bomb personnel began, officials said.

In the aftermath of the fire, the fire marshal’s office and police confirmed no one had been injured, with police saying the fire had been deemed non-suspicious.
