GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, July 21.

The items reported took place between August 5 and August 11 and are as follows:
Aug. 11:
- A woman reported identity theft, reporting she owes $27,800 for an account opened in April of 2021. The report was forwarded to the Detective Division.
- GCPD responded to a Garden City residence for a report of a suspicious person, who was observed on camera going up to the caller's porch. The person was observed opening an Amazon package, then putting it down and leaving the scene without taking anything. No monetary loss was reported, and the incident was forwarded to the Detective Division.
Aug. 10:
- GCPD and GCFD responded to Clinton Rd. and Old Country Rd. to assist NCPD with an overturned fuel truck, which was southbound on Glen Cove Rd. attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Old Country Rd. GCPD and NCPD diverted traffic and closed the surrounding streets until the tanker could be unloaded, lifted upright, and towed away.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for a report of wires burning in the rear yard. GCFD extinguished a small fire, taped off the area, and notified PSEG.
- Officers responded to Old Country Rd. to assist Nassau County Probation, who had stopped a 23-year-old Plainview man on probation driving a 2021 BMW. GCPD officers arrested the man. Three tickets were issued and made returnable to the Village of Garden City Justice Court on September 28.
- Police responded to Cherry Valley Ave., the Garden City Pool, for a Village of Garden City employee reporting youths in the pool area after closing. Three Garden City 18-year-olds were stopped and given desk appearance tickets for being in the park after the posted closing time. The tickets are returnable to the Village of Garden City Justice Court on August 24.
Aug. 9:
- GCPD responded to a report for a man lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, a traffic stop was initiated, and a 42-year-old Mineola man was arrested and charged with three counts of DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a license restriction violation, and a parking violation. The 2011 Chevrolet he was driving was impounded.
- Officers responded to the pool at Community Park for a report of loud music.
Aug. 8:
- GCPD officers responded to a Franklin Ave. restaurant for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival, there was an underground explosion outside the location, with thick black smoke emanating from a manhole cover. GCFD units arrived at the scene and discovered a transformer explosion in the manhole, with an electrical fire now in the building. The fire was contained to the basement of the location by GCFD, with neighboring fire departments assisting. Nassau County Fire Marshal and PSEG were at the scene.
- GCPD officers responded to a report of a solicitor. Upon arrival, a solicitor for a pest control company was located. An investigation at the scene, while preparing an appearance for the violation, revealed that the 27-year-old Hicksville man had an active Nassau County arrest warrant. The man was arrested and is awaiting arraignment in Nassau County First District Court on Aug. 9.
- GCPD and GCFD responded back to a location of an earlier building fire at a Franklin Ave. restaurant for a report of smoke in the basement. GCFD isolated the area and located another fire in a basement wall possibly related to the prior fire. Nassau County Fire Marshal at scene.
Aug. 7:
- GCPD officers interviewed a Garden City resident regarding a parking dispute with a neighbor; a report regarding same was prepared.
- Officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report of packages delivered to the resident that were not ordered by same. A report was taken for documentation purposes.
Aug. 6:
- GCPD interviewed a Franklin Square woman who stated that she suffered a dog bite to her leg while working at a 7th St. business on Aug. 5. A report was prepared regarding the same.
- Officers conducted a traffic stop of an apparently overweight commercial truck and trailer. After investigation at the scene, the 26-year-old West Babylon man was arrested for second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and the truck was placed out of service.
Aug. 5:
- GCPD officers responded to a location for a report of a possibly deceased man in a rental room. Upon arrival, the deceased man was located; detectives are investigating.
