GARDEN CITY, NY — MUJI, a Japanese lifestyle retailer, is expanding to Garden City's Roosevelt Field Mall, marking the first on Long Island.

A spokesperson from MUJI told Patch that the company chose Long Island as a new location for multiple reasons.

"MUJI was looking to open on Long Island with the intent of introducing MUJI to a new market, and in providing the community with a destination for considerately designed, everyday essentials," the spokesperson said.

President of MUJI USA Richard Rappaport said the company is excited to grow in the U.S., with new openings in New York – Garden City and White Plains – New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

"Our ambition is to make MUJI more accessible while staying true to the simplicity, quality, and thoughtful design that have defined the brand around the world," Rappaport said.
