The items reported took place between August 17 and August 25 and are as follows:
Aug. 25:
GCPD and GCFD responded to a Franklin Ave. restaurant for an alarm FD determined was due to steaming potatoes.
The Garden City Detective Division arrested a 21-year-old Garden City South man for leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident on Aug. 22.
Aug. 24:
GCPD responded to a report of a missing 86-year-old man. The man, operating a vehicle, never reached the Mineola lodge he was supposed to go to at approximately noon. GC Detective Division and NCPD Missing Persons Squad investigated. An alarm was entered into the NYS data portal. The missing man was located by the GC Detective Division operating his vehicle at approximately 11:20 pm. A GCPD officer drove his vehicle home, where he was reunited with his family. The alarm regarding the missing person and his vehicle was canceled.
GCPD and GCFD responded to Stewart Ave. for an odor of gas regarding a spill of an unknown substance. FD determined that the spill was non-toxic and that staff were to clean it up.
Aug. 23:
GCPD officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined that a person had entered and rummaged through an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway. No items were discovered missing, and no damage to the vehicle was noted. Detectives have been notified.
Officers responded to 11th St. at Franklin Ave. for a report of a broken/missing manhole cover. The area was secured, and the GC Water Department was at the scene for repair.
Aug. 22:
GCPD responded to a motorcycle crash on Nassau Blvd. at Newmarket Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 30-year-old Queens Village man had lost control of his motorcycle, struck a curb and a street sign, and sustained a large leg laceration. No other vehicles or people were involved, and the motorcycle driver was transported to the hospital without further incident.
Officers responded to a report of petit larceny, in which a homeless person stole $15 worth of food. Prosecution declined. Field interview completed.
GCPD responded to a report for found property. A backpack containing a laptop and various other items was invoiced. The owner is unknown.
Aug. 21:
GCPD officers responded to Stewart Ave. at Ring Rd. to assist NCPD with traffic control following an auto crash involving an overturned vehicle in the vicinity of the 3rd pct. Assistance was rendered without incident.
Officers, while on patrol, were approached on 7th St. regarding a dispute. An investigation at the scene revealed that both parties were present and no crime had been committed; a report was prepared regarding the incident.
GCPD responded to a report of vehicles disregarding a DO NOT ENTER sign. Multiple traffic stops were conducted.
Aug. 20:
GCPD responded to various locations regarding extreme flooding from a torrential storm. At Cherry Valley Ave. and First St. an officer observed that two sewer drain caps had been displaced and that water was spouting. The Water Department was notified and corrected the situation as flooding receded. At other locations, five disabled vehicles were towed due to flooding.
A GCPD traffic enforcement officer stopped a 25-year-old Queens man driving a 2025 Honda with a suspended registration and excessive tint on the windows. Traffic tickets were issued, and field interviews were conducted with the vehicle's operator and all three passengers. Warrant checks on the four were negative.
GCPD responded to a Garden City residence for a report of a stolen 2022 Cadillac Escalade from the driveway. The keys were left in another vehicle also parked in the driveway. Officers checked the area and found no results. The report was forwarded to the detective division. The vehicle was subsequently located in Bridgeport, CT.
Aug. 19:
GCPD responded to assist Nassau County Probation with a traffic stop. As a result, GCPD arrested a 26-year-old Hicksville man for driving a 2005 Honda with a suspended license.
A CEO of a Franklin Ave. business, present in GCPD HQ, reports a grand larceny of $4,700 of electronics. He reports that on August 3, he gave a laptop and a phone to a newly hired employee who never showed up for work. After numerous attempts to contact the person to have him return the property, which yielded no results, he chose to report the incident. The report was forwarded to the detective division.
A GCPD traffic enforcement officer stopped a 31-year-old Valley Stream man for driving an unregistered 2011 Ford on Clinton Rd. An investigation revealed the operator had an active Suffolk County PD warrant for larceny. GCPD detained the defendant at GCPD HQ until the SCPD fugitive squad responded to pick up the defendant regarding the warrant.
Aug. 18:
GCPD and GCFD responded to the Adelphi Science Building for an active smoke/heat detector activation, which FD determined was due to vaping.
GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for an odor of gas. FD determined the fireplace was leaking gas. The gas was turned off before PD and FD arrival.
Aug. 17:
GCPD responded to a residence in Hempstead to assist Hempstead PD with a burglary investigation. Hempstead PD arrested one subject in connection with the burglary. GCPD remained at the scene until it was determined that there appeared to be no other perpetrators.
