9 Left Without A Home After Early Morning Hempstead Fire: FD

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Seven adults and two children were displaced after a Hempstead house fire early Sunday morning, fire marshals said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said the Hempstead Fire Department responded to a two-story home on Webb Ave at 1:15 a.m.

About 75 firefighters brought the fire under control within 45 minutes, and no injuries were reported, fire marshals said.

Mutual aid was provided by Uniondale, Freeport, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Garden City, Roosevelt, and West Hempstead fire departments and a Deputy County Fire Coordinator from the NCFM's Office – all under the command of Chief Clark, fire marshals said.

The Red Cross was contacted to help the displaced individuals with housing relocation and the Village of Hempstead Building Department was contacted to assess damage, fire marshals said.

According to fire marshals, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the NCFM's Office and the NCPD Arson/Bomb Squad.
