LONG ISLAND, NY — As incumbent state Sen. Siela Bynoe led the 6th Senatorial District race against Conservative challenger, Matthew Capp, on Wednesday, he called to congratulate her, according to posts on Facebook.
As of around 7 p.m, Bynoe was leading with 65 percent to Capp's 32 percent, with 225 of 236 districts reporting, according to unofficial results from the state's Board of Elections.
In his post, Capp said, "We came up short last night."
"From day one, we knew it was going to be an uphill climb in Senate District 6, but I was honored to be tapped by Chairman Cairo to take on the challenge," he added.
"I spoke to my opponent, Senator Bynoe, and congratulated her on her victory," he said. "I wish her the best as she prepares to begin a new term in office. To everyone who supported my campaign — I am so incredibly grateful."
"My family, friends, neighbors, and fellow committeemen really went above and beyond," he said. "Whether it was through fundraising, helping me knock on doors, putting out lawn signs, or simply sharing some kind words, your support means more to me than you will ever know."
"It was an amazing experience to campaign in the district where I was raised, alongside some truly spectacular people," he said. "I will cherish their friendship for the rest of my life, as well as the opportunity to participate in our nation's democratic process."
"I look forward to staying engaged in the civic life of our community and seeing you all around town," he said. "Thank you all. I am so grateful."
In her own post, Bynoe said, "Serving the communities of Senate District 6 is my life's highest honor."
"Thank you for providing me with a mandate to continue the work that has kept me so happily busy during this first term," she said. "Scripture teaches us that 'faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.' Each person who made calls, knocked on doors, supported us financially, and advocated for our people-powered campaign, is an embodiment of that truth."
"My opponent in this race, Matthew Capp, called me this morning to congratulate me," she said. "I was appreciative of the gesture, and I wish him all the best."
"The need to deliver a more affordable and equitable New York was and will always be centered of heart and top of mind," she said. "Together, we will make Nassau County and the entire Empire State a more prosperous place for every family."
Bynoe was first elected in 2024.
