Behind-the-Scenes: Garden City Schools Employee Spotlight

This month’s Behind the Scenes: Employee Spotlight is focused on Kimberly Greenwald, a reading teacher for Grades 6–8 at Garden City Middle School.

Greenwald holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Administrative Certificate from C. W. Post and has been employed by Garden City Public Schools for the past six years.

“One reason I enjoy coming to work each day is that I love to see my students having fun learning,” Greenwald said with her characteristic smile. “I enjoy helping them develop a passion for reading. My students are a breath of fresh air. They come in with an open mind; they are polite, respectful and a true pleasure to teach. They even say ‘thank you’ at the end of every class.”

Besides her teaching duties, Greenwald is involved in many programs at the middle school including collaborating with home base teachers to develop and implement activities that promote social and emotional growth, and, for the past four years, Kimberly has worked as the backstage manager for the middle school’s theater productions.

In her free time, Greenwald enjoys spending time with her two dogs and exercising outdoors, especially running in “a lot of 5K races.”

Dr. Peter Osroff, principal at the middle school, commented, “Ms. Greenwald is VERY active with our anti-bias and anti-bullying efforts in the school. She trains our peer leaders, is advisor to the Anti-Bias Club, the Anti-Bullying Club and is the home base anti-bully coordinator. She is a chaperone at all events, as well. She is an invaluable member of our middle school staff.”
