Family Camp with Garden City Community Church

The Garden City Community Church sponsors an annual week-long summer Family Camp. For the last few years members and friends have gone to Lake Winnipeausakee in New Hampshire.

Led by member Beth Schroeder, the Family Camp theme for 2011 was “Every Day is a Holiday” with Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter all celebrated in special ways during the week. The outdoor chapel was used in a Communion Service on Sunday. The youth led a meaningful Vesper Service mid-week that continued the holiday theme and touched upon some of their experiences on their recent youth Mission Trip to Mississippi.

Reverend Lynn Sullivan led a unique Bible Study on the “Bad Girls of the Bible” that both entertained and informed.

The campers laughed, hiked and enjoyed beautiful days at the lakefront. They painted in the Art Cabin. Member John Mezzo hosted the Talent Show. Along with his wife, Cathryn, they conducted a fun-filled sing-a-long of their original Family Camp songs with the audience. Lou Demars, ala Alex Trebec, hosted an adult game of Jeopardy. Games similar to Minute-to-Win-It were enjoyed.

Suzy Henriquez introduced a beautiful sunset barge ceremony that involved all the families. Each family decorated their own barge, reflected on their summer experiences and voiced a prayer for the future as their barge was linked in a chain that was gracefully towed by a canoe onto the lake.
