BBQ Grill Blaze Spreads To Garden City Home; 50 Firefighters Race To Extinguish Flames: Officials

A barbecue grill went up in flames on Sunday afternoon, fire marshals said.

GARDEN CITY, NY — A barbecue grill caught fire, with flames igniting the outside of a home in Garden City on Sunday, fire marshals said.

The Garden City Fire Department responded to the 2-story home on Old Country Road at around 12:25 p.m. and placed the fire under control within 20 minutes with about 50 firefighters on scene, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said.

One firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion and was evaluated on scene, fire marshals said.

The NCFM HazMat team secured a propane tank that was damaged by the fire, fire marshals said. The NCFM and NCPD arson/bomb squad teams are investigating the cause of the fire, fire marshals said.

Mineola, New Hyde Park, Franklin Square, and Garden City Park fire departments responded as mutual aid, fire marshals said.
