Betsey Johnson to Close Roosevelt Field Mall Store

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few weeks ago, fashion designer Betsey Johnson's company has announced that most of the chain's 63 stores will close, including the Roosevelt Field Mall location.

According to a Forbes article, the filing will likely result in the dismissal of 350 employees.

It listed “severe liquidity problems” and $4.1 million in outstanding unsecured obligations owed to vendors, manufacturers, service providers and other creditors including jewelers, watchmakers, banks and accountants.

While the stores are closing, fashionistas will still be able to find Betsey Johnson gear at Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales, along with a handful of flagship locations. A rep from Nordstrom, which is also located at Roosevelt Field Mall, said they carry Betsey Johnson outerwear and accessories, but not her clothing line.

The store manager at the Garden City location said she was not allowed to speak to media. She did say that she did not know when the store was actually closing, but they are currently offering a 20 percent discount on merchandise.
