Bites Nearby: Rein

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Garden City Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here’s this week’s choice:

REIN: If you have been avoiding Rein, the signature restaurant at The Garden City Hotel, because you think it is too expensive, you may want to take advantage of Long Island Restaurant Week. That’s because Rein is one of the participating restaurants. Now through April 10, Rein is offering a price fixe menu of $24.95 (which includes a choice of three appetizers, three main courses and three desserts). Rein’s delicious entrees normally start at $24, and sides and appetizers are extra, so this is a relative bargain.

The Restaurant Week menu, prepared by Master Chef Steven De Bruyn, features the following:

• Appetizers: grilled shrimp satay, mango-jicama slaw and a tropical fruit coulis; or grilled asparagus salad, roasted beets and gratineed goat cheese, with lemon-chervil vinaigrette; or sweet pea soup with a smoked salmon and fresh ricotta crostini.
• Entrees: pan-seared arctic char, with Brussels sprout leaves and baby turnips and spiced red wine sauce; or herb-roasted free range chicken breast with creamed spinach, parsnips and wild mushrooms; or a grilled pork chop with leek and potato gratin and spring vegetables, and a Pommerey mustard sauce.
• Desserts: orange clafoutis; Rocky Road ice cream; or trio of sorbets.

Of course, Rein is great all year round, and is especially popular for weekend brunch and holidays. Stylish in its décor, Rein features a rear lit onyx bar with custom artwork and plasma television screens.
