Bowling in Sixth after Day One of UMES Hawk Classic

Millsboro, Del. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team went 3-2 in day one Baker action of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic on Friday and stand in sixth place. 

The Panthers began the dayby downing nationally ranked Valaporasio University by 14 pins, 792-778, as Samantha Morlack came up big in the last frame by downing 30 much-needed pins to seal the victory. Adelphi then stopped the Pirates of Hampton University by 76 pins in a 731-655 win.

The Jennies of the University of Central Missouri trailed the Panthers by 33 pins entering the fourth and final game of the four game Baker match but exploded with seven straight strikes to win. The Brown and Gold fell short by 17 pins despite rolling their four best games of the day (202, 212, 200 and 205) in the 836-819 loss. The Panthers returned to the win column by defeating Howard University by 74 pins, 726-652, in the next Baker match.

The two time defending NCAA Champions UMES Hawks handled the Panthers despite a strong finish (200 and 214) by won the final event of the day by 73 pins, 835-762.

The Panthers are now 28-9 on the season and return to play tomorrow in team matches.
