The Trojans came into the match without a loss in Conference play, as did South Side, and both sides knew this would be a tough match-up of similar playing styles - physical, get the ball deep on offense and high pressure on defense. The game was only seven minutes in when South Side was awarded a free kick that they converted for the first goal of the game and ultimately was too much for GC to overcome.
The game was played ‘between the 18’s’ for much of the match with neither team having many good scoring opportunities although late in the second half the home team came close to capitalizing on a corner kick. Chris Tavernese sent a ball in the box that couldn’t find the foot or head of a teammate and was ultimately cleared.
With under four minutes to play, South Side capitalized on a quick counterattack and put a second ball into the net for the 2-0 final score.
