Brand New Lacrosse Team To Call Nassau Coliseum Home

The team, which doesn't have a name yet, will play home games at the Coliseum starting in 2019.

Nassau Coliseum now has a new sports team that is going to call the venue home: the as-yet unnamed New York team in the National Lacrosse League.

The announcement game on Tuesday that GF Sports, the team's owner, would make Nassau Coliseum the home venue for the team, which will start playing in 2019. The New York team will be the 13th franchise in the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

The lacrosse team will be the third team to use the Coliseum as its home. The Long Island Nets are based there, and the Islanders are playing 21 home games at the Coliseum this season while their new arena is being constructed in Belmont.

“We are proud to bring an NLL franchise to the New York Metropolitan area, a region known for producing some of the greatest lacrosse players in the country and having some of the most avid lacrosse fans," said Gary Fuhrman, managing partner at GF Capital and board member of GF Sports. "With its rich history and state-of-the-art facilities, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum will serve as the perfect home for the return of professional lacrosse to New York in 2019.”

The lacrosse team is currently holding a survey on its website to get fan feedback on a name for the team. Participants who complete the survey will be entered for a chance to win season tickets to the team’s inaugural season. A special event will take place in early 2019 to announce the finalized team name, logo and brand.
