Checks Worth $200,000 Stolen From Local Business: Garden City PD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 23.
March 17
- Officers responded to the Stewart Manor Crossing for a railroad gate malfunction.
- A bicycle was reported stolen from a Huntington Road Driveway.
- A 49-year-old driver was arrested on Linden Street for possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured operation, tinted windows, and defective sideview mirrors.
- Upon investigation of a road rage incident, Garden City detectives arrested a 27-year-old man for reckless endangerment and menacing. On March 12, police say the man exited his vehicle on Stewart Avenue at Nassau Boulevard and threatened two women in another vehicle after throwing a bottle at them.
- Upon investigation of a speeding car on Clinton Road, officers arrested a 31-year-old man for possession of a forged registration, excessive speed, unregistered vehicle, uninsured operation, and improper plates.
March 18

- Garden City detectives arrested a 36-year-old man for grand larceny. On Feb. 28, a man had left one adult American Bully dog and eight American Bully puppies in the care of a woman, (arrested on March 3) who arranged for the man to take the dogs without the owner’s consent. The detectives recovered the dogs in New York City. The value of the dogs is approximately $62,000. The man was also charged with unauthorized use of a car after taking another person’s vehicle and refusing to return it.
- Police and fire fighters responded to a fully engulfed house fire on Spruce Street. The homeowner was able to exit the residence without injury. Firefighters were able to control and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and police Arson Squad responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Neighboring Fire Departments assisted.
- A victim’s identity was used to open an unauthorized credit card account.
March 19
- A car parked in a Cherry Valley Avenue driveway was reportedly rummaged through. There is no reported loss.
- A check was reported stolen from an Old Country Road business.
March 20

- Two Garden City Plaza businesses report checks placed in their building’s mailboxes were stolen and cashed by unknown persons. Total loss exceeds $200,000.
- A driver was charged with driving on Cherry Valley Avenue with a suspended license and unregistered vehicle.
- A driver was charged with driving on Cambridge Avenue at Middleton Street with a suspended license and operating a hand-held electronic device.
March 21
- Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a protest on Franklin Avenue at 15th Street.
- A 26-year-old man, a boiler service contractor, was arrested for the theft of a boiler fuse from a Lindbergh Street residence. He was charged with larceny.
March 22
- Police officers were assigned to a traffic light malfunction at the intersection of Hilton Avenue and 11th Street.
- An officer stopped a truck on New Hyde Park Road where stones were falling off the back of the vehicle creating a hazardous condition. Upon investigation, the 38-year-old driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, and failure to cover and secure loose cargo.
March 23
- An 18-year-old driver was charged with driving on Hilton Avenue with an unregistered vehicle, improper plates, a broken windshield, and possession of a forged DMV document.
