Community Park Field 2 Renovations Underway

Excavation of the infield is nearly complete and upgrades to field lighting began this week.

Community Park, one of the Village’s flagship recreational facilities, continues to undergo major upgrades with the full renovation of Field 2 now underway.

To date, excavation of the infield is nearly complete and upgrades to field lighting began this week. This baseball/softball field will be fully renovated with a new artificial turf infield, new dugouts, natural outfield grass and new lighting. The artificial infield will allow for more playing time, especially after inclement weather, and less maintenance.

“Weather permitting, we still anticipate completion by Little League Opening Day in April,” Kevin Ocker, chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Cultural and Recreational Affairs, said.

When completed, the Village will have substantially completed renovations of all of the fields at Community Park, renovations that began approximately three years ago.

Field #3, used for softball and baseball, and Field #4, a lighted 90-foot baseball field, which were completed on time and under budget in the fall of 2016, were the first major projects identified in year one of the Strategic Plan. Renovations included synthetic turf infields, new irrigation and new underground drainage systems. The fields are also outfitted with new safety fencing, backstops and dugouts.

In August 2017, the newly renovated multi-sport turf field, which is used for soccer, lacrosse and football, opened.

“The Board believes that these facilities rival any facilities on Long Island and we invite our residents to visit these facilities and utilize them,” Mayor Brian Daughney said.
