Coronavirus In Garden City: What You Need To Know

Here's the latest on how the virus is affecting Garden City.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The new coronavirus continues to plague Garden City, and has lead to a complete disruption in everyday life for many residents.

As of April 16, there were more than 250 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the Garden City area: 121 in Garden City Park, 122 in Garden City and 30 in Garden City South. There were 27,772 confirmed cases in Nassau County and 222,284 in New York as a whole.

NY PAUSE has shut down most of the state. All non-essential businesses are closed, and citizens have been told not to go out of their homes. The order was recently extended until May 15. It's also important to maintain social distancing to stop the spread of the virus, which means staying at least six feet away from other people.

Schools

All schools are closed until at least May 15 by order of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. That order will be revisited and could be extended if necessary.

Village Services

Village Hall is closed to the public. The village elections, which were originally scheduled for March 18, have been postponed to April 28, although that date may yet change. The Garden City Library is also closed.

All Village Court sessions are canceled. All people will be given new court dates, and will not be penalized for the delays.

All indoor Garden City Department of Recreation facilities are closed, and all programs are canceled. Parks are still open, but residents must maintain a minimum safe distance of six feet from each other when at the park.

Businesses

All non-essential businesses are closed. But many restaurants are still serving food for delivery and take-out.
