Couple Attacked Man In Road Rage Incident: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City POlice Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 20.

Oct. 14

  • Boxes of books placed in a Willow Street driveway for a donation were reported stolen.
  • Officers assisted firefighters who extinguished a car fire on Nassau Boulevard. There were no reported injuries.
  • A driver on Franklin Avenue at 7th Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper turn. A driver on Stewart Avenue at Tullamore Road was charged with driving with a suspended license as well as multiple aggressive driving violations including excessive speed.

  • Officers responded to a 7th Street store at 5 a.m. for an alarm activation and discovered the rear glass door to the premise damaged and money stolen from a charity display. Upon search of the area, an officer located the subject, a 24-year-old man, fleeing the area on Franklin Avenue and 2nd Street. He was found to be in possession of the stolen money. He was arrested and charged with burglary.
  • Officers responded to Stewart Avenue and Wickham Road for a report of a dispute between two men. Upon investigation, officers arrested a jogger for punching a walker several times, resulting in facial and head injuries. The victim, a 35-year-old man from West Hempstead, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The attacker, a 24-year-old man from Franklin Square, was charged with assault.
  • Detectives are investigating a report of multiple fraudulent online withdrawals, totaling $18,000, from a business checking account.
  • A driver on Hilton Avenue and 7th Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration. A driver on Franklin Avenue and 4th Street was also charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.

Oct. 16

  • Items were reported stolen from two cars parked in a John Street driveway.

  • Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a protest march on multiple streets including Franklin Avenue and 7th Street.
  • After a lengthy investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 34-year-old man from the Bronx for an incident that occurred in January where a check was stolen from a mailbox, altered and cashed for $120,000. He was charged with grand larceny.
  • The police department is investigating a reported internet scam. After being prompted by what appeared to be a valid Microsoft pop-up notice that her computer was hacked, a resident called the number listed and was advised to buy gift cards to remedy the issue. It was later determined to be a scam.

Oct. 18

  • Detectives are investigating a report of a man using another person’s Marriot bonus points without authorization to pay for a lengthy stay at the Residence Inn. The value of the points is estimated at $1,650.
  • Both drivers involved in a two-car crash on Hilton Avenue were charged with driving with suspended licenses.

Oct. 19

  • A driver said he was heading southbound on Franklin Avenue when he had to stop suddenly for a man crossing the street. The driver said that after he honked his horn, the pedestrian became angry and punched his car, damaging the side view mirror.
  • A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed in a school zone.

Oct. 20

  • Officers are investigating a road rage incident on Rockaway Avenue where a man and his female passenger reportedly exited their vehicle and punched a driver from another vehicle several times resulting in bruises and lacerations to his head, face and wrist.
  • Officers assisted firefighters who responded to a residential carbon monoxide alarm. Upon detection of carbon monoxide, the firefighters vented the house and corrected the condition.
