Couple Pulled Over With Loaded Guns, Ammunition In Nassau: Police

The couple, who were stopped in Carle Place with a South Carolina registration, had two young children in the vehicle, authorities said.

CARLE PLACE, NY — A couple from Hempstead were arrested after being stopped Wednesday night in Carle Place with weapons and ammunition, authorities said.

During the investigation, officers found a loaded .22 Ruger Mark III semi-automatic handgun, a loaded 9 mm 12-round high-capacity and .22 caliber ammunition.

The driver, Kawshawn Price, 23, and front passenger, Assady Smiley, 22, were placed under arrest without incident, police said.

The black Ford Escape they were driving had a South Carolina registration when it was pulled over on Glen Cove Road.

Their two children, eight months and two years of age, who were in the vehicle's back seats, were released to a family member.

The two rear passengers, the defendant’s children,ages 8 months and 2 years of age were released to a family member.

Price is charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a firearm and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Smiley is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
