Court-Appointed Guardian Accused of Stealing Over $50,000 From Minor: DA
The 58-year-old was appointed the guardian of a then 11-year-old boy in 2009 after his mother died, the DA said.

A Hempstead guardian of a then 11-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday for stealing over $50,000 from the child's accounts, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
Angela Parson, 58, was named the guardian of the 11-year-old after his mother passed away in April 2009 by the Nassau County Surrogate’s Court, according to the DA.
After gaining joint control of the child's property and accounts with Capital One, Parson opened a guardianship account in the name of the child at a bank other than Capital One where she deposited $18,500, the DA said.

She was the sole authorized signature on the account, but she was not authorized by the Surrogate Court’s files to open the account, the DA said.
By February 2011, the balance of the account was zero dollars.

In September 2011, she opened a custodial account in the name of the child at Capital One and deposited $60,000. Again, Parson was the sole authorized signature on the account.
By May 2015, the balance of the account was zero dollars.
Parson allegedly withdrew the money for her own personal use that were unrelated to the minor and without the knowledge or approval of the Court, the DA said.
In addition, she wrote to the Surrogate’s Court in August 2010 requesting that she be “released from all custody obligation for (the minor)” as he no longer lived with her but was living with his father in Jamaica, according to the DA.
However, the Guardianship Department of the Surrogate’s Court told Parson she needed to complete the appropriate petition to revoke her appointment as guardian and accounting form regarding the funds that were deposited in Capital One, which she did not file, according to the DA.
In November 2015, the boy under Parson's guardianship, now an adult, notified the DA's office that he was not able to contact Parson and claimed his guardianship account had been withdrawn by her in violation of the order of the Nassau County Surrogate’s Court, the DA said.
